چکیده

Different security measurements for a steganographic system, i.e. security (detectability), robustness and secrecy (difficulty of extraction), are discussed in this paper. We propose a new measurement for the security of stegosystems using variational distance which can upper bound the advantage for passive attackers. It is proved that the hiding capacity, which is also the measurement for robustness, is limited by security. We think the extracting attack essentially is a kind of cryptanalysis and define the secrecy of stegosystems as an analogue of secrecy of cryptosystems. The relations of secrecy with capacity and security are analyzed in the terms of unicity distance. And it is shown that there is a tradeoff between secrecy and capacity while there is some kind of consistency between secrecy and security.

A Comparative Analysis of Steganographic Tools

Steganography is the art and science of hiding data in a transmission medium. It is a sub-discipline of security systems. In this paper we present a study carried out to compare the performance of some common Steganographic tools distributed online. We focus our analysis on systems that use digital images as transmission carriers. A number of these systems exceptionally do not support embedding...

Achieving Efficient and Provably Secure Steganography in Practice

Steganography is the task of concealing a message within a medium such that the presence of the hidden message cannot be detected. Though the prospect of steganography is conceivably interesting in many contexts, and though work has been done both towards formalizing steganographic security and providing provably secure constructions, little work exists attempting to provide efficient and prova...

Modeling the Security of Steganographic Systems

We present a model of steganographic systems which allows to evaluate their security. We especially want to establish an analogy to the known-plaintext-attack which is commonly used to rate cryptographic systems. This model´s main statement is that the embedding operation of a steganographic system should work indeterministic from the attacker´s point of view. This is proved by means of informa...

Traffic Analysis Attacks on a Continuously-Observable Steganographic File System

A continuously-observable steganographic file system allows to remotely store user files on a raw storage device; the security goal is to offer plausible deniability even when the raw storage device is continuously monitored by an attacker. Zhou, Pang and Tan have proposed such a system in [7] with a claim of provable security against traffic analysis. In this paper, we disprove their claims by...
